Mutumba!!! Kiswahili

Mutumba or Toi Market as we use to cal it, is a fantastic market full of clothes, food, shoes, bags, toys and much more. It’s an oasis of relaxed people who are just happy and calm. One of the funniest experiences I have had in Kibera’s mutumba is when Mimmi and I were wandering around one Saturday afternoon and we came to a part of Toi that we hadn’t been to before. There weren’t any market-stalls and we thought that it was the workers resting place/lunch room. We felt quite misplaced, two white girls exhausted from the heat. But when we were in the middle of it struggling and trying to fined a way out a man shouted at us and wanted us to join the billiards that was going on, because we had nothing better for us we sat down watching them play, it was just a very relaxed atmosphere. We sat there for over one hour I think, just breathing the air whit people we’d never met before. That feeling you know its hard to describe. The moment I felt alive, really, those people have a good life somehow that we westerner never would appreciate.
